About Dr. Merz
Dr. Caroline Merz graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Psychology. She obtained a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. While at WashU, Dr. Merz was awarded a federal training grant fellowship from the National Institute on Aging, and received the Lichtenberg Scholarship in Geropsychology. She completed an APA-Accredited clinical internship at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC, and received advanced specialty training in Clinical Health Psychology through a post-doctoral fellowship from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Merz has published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored two book chapters. She has presented her work at both local and national conferences. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Merz holds a faculty appointment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is currently working on a clinical trial to improve psychological care for older adults with cancer.
Dr. Merz volunteers her time leading support groups and teaching educational workshops through the Alzheimer’s Association. Outside of work, Dr. Merz is an outdoor enthusiast, language lover, and proud mom of three.

Dr. Merz offers a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation for potential future clients. This is to determine mutual fit and is free of cost.
Therapy sessions are conducted via telehealth, using a HIPAA-secure video conferencing platform for healthcare (similar to Zoom).

Insurance Information
Dr. Merz accepts Medicare.
If you have Medicare as your primary or only insurance, this means that psychological services will be covered by your insurance. If you have a secondary insurance, your secondary insurance can be billed with the remainder of what Medicare does not pay for. Even with Medicare as a primary insurance and a private secondary insurance, you may still be responsible for paying a co-pay or to hit a deductible.
